Optimizing Talent Mobility

Key Takeaways from C2HR CON

When 250 HR professionals gathered at the C2HR CON in Brooklyn on August 6, the ballroom was buzzing with conversations, idea sharing and aha moments. The energy was electric and attendees celebrated the opportunity to get together in person to learn, network and celebrate this year’s HR Game Changers. Susan Winchester

The keynote speaker, Susan Winchester, shared how childhood trauma impacts work relationships, communication styles and how people react to change or uncertainty. She drew upon her own experiences to share how managers who lead with empathy can apply a healing approach at work which cultivates emotional resilience, transform the workplace culture and enhances innovation. Susan shared two free resources: an Assessment to Identify Your Path to Less Workplace Stress and 34 Ways to make Yourself Feel Better Instantly (When You’re Having a Really Bad Day).

Here are some other nuggets shared during sessions held throughout the day:

  • When talking with employees about AI, be aware that what you say is often different from what they hear.

You Say They Hear

  • When it comes to managing a multi-generational workforce, consider moving from a Command & Control approach to a focus on Collaboration & Contribution.

  • Expedite the talent search, most younger candidates have Amazon package delivery expectations when it comes to the hiring process.

  • Gen Z and Gen Alpha tend to live in a bubble and filter out anything that makes them uncomfortable. Managers need to unravel the bubble wrap. Invite conversations, even uncomfortable ones.

  • Transparency is key for talent mobility to succeed.

  • Growth is not synonymous with advancement.

  • Employee burnout costs companies $322 billion in turnover costs and lost productivity.

  • The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) is now in effect. It provides reasonable accommodations to pregnant works unless the accommodations pose undue hardship and shifts the burden to employers to show why it can’t accommodate worker. This Act bridges the gap between PDA (Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978) and ADA Requirements for employers with 15+ employees.

  • Lean into what you are good at!

At the end of the conference, C2HR announced the dates for C2HR CON 2025. The confab will be held in Brooklyn on July 28-29. Save the date and plan to join us!
